In these tough economic times, most of us are concerned about our finances. As a result, we are more stressed than usual. It is at times like this that it is important to remember to take care of ourselves, not only physically but emotionally and spiritually as well. Stress is one of the leading causes of a number of medical conditions, and exacerbates other medical and psychological conditions. So here are three suggestions for caring for you during this time.
In addition to your physical health, don't forget to nourish your emotional self. Whether you enjoy meditating, listening to music, reading, exercising, being in nature or just sitting quietly, take some time to do it on a consistent basis. Caring for your inner self helps you cope with the daily hassles and stressors of everyday life.
Focus on what is important. Spend time with friends and family. Talking with friends is a great way to decrease stress for many of us, and this type of networking also helps generate ideas. Rediscover your family. Be creative. Revive your enjoyment of those simple activities you enjoyed together when your children were small.
Learn to change those things you can and accept those things you cannot. Assess stress inducing situations. Decide what you can influence and how, and develop steps or strategies to alter those situations. Work to accept those things that you cannot change. Worrying about things you cannot change creates needless stress.
